I wanted to travel. I spent hours on end pinning exotic beaches in Fiji and gorgeous mountains in Iceland. But I had bills to pay, student loan debt, and yummy restaurants to try. So the question arises: how can I possibly afford to travel? A asked myself this question a few months ago, and here’s what I came up with.
My Travel Resolution– Each month, I will put a set amount of money away in a travel account. With research and careful planning, I was surprised to find out how many trips I could actually afford to take in the next 10 years. Here’s how you do it:
1. Choose a destination (Thailand)
2. Figure how much money you can put away each month ($100/month)
3. Decide when you want to take the trip (Spring of 2017)
4. Work backwards to see it you’ll have enough cash for your trip (31 months out @ $100/month= $3,100 for the trip)
Don’t be discouraged by this. Even if you can only save $20 a month, at least you’re saving something! You don’t have to take your trip tomorrow- the point is, you’re proactively planning, which means you WILL go sooner than later.
