I’ve always been an “all or nothing” type of person. If I want to take up a new hobby, I get borderline obsessed, reading and learning everything I can about it. If I want to eat healthier, it turns into a 10 day juice cleanse. Call it being a perfectionist, but over the years I’ve found that these “extremes” never work the way you want them to. And more importantly, they aren’t sustainable.Upon reflecting on what is coming to be my three month mark living in Maui, I realized i’m not exactly where I thought I would be at this point of the journey. If you’ve ever moved to a new place, you know what I’m talking about. Getting acquainted to a new job and a new city while attempting to make friends and realizing that you don’t know more than a small handful of people can get overwhelming (and a tad discouraging) at times. That’s why I’ve decided to start a new, sustainable regimen- what I’m calling my Mind + Body Makeover. Here’s my logic- I can either focus all of energy on what is lacking, or I can focus all of my energy into getting myself in top physical and mental condition. When you’re functioning at your highest level, you attract the things you want (for more on this, I suggest this book). So here is my simple, three step plan:
1. Workout regimen + healthy eating. I finally joined a gym in Maui and i’m doing Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Challenge. This isn’t about losing weight for me, but there’s no denying that working out releases endorphins and makes you feel physically stronger. My Hawaii diet has recently consisted of a lot of gelato and chips, so it’s back to the prep cooking for me. I love this for breakfast, a big salad for lunch, daily Kombucha and lots of lean protein with fresh fruits and veggies.2. Daily meditation + learning to surf. Plenty of people work out their bodies, but they forgot to workout their minds. To me, this is just as important as hitting the gym. While I haven’t quite mastered the art of meditation, this app is making it a lot easier. So take ten minutes of meditation a day, combine that with the seemingly impossible task of learning to surf and you’ve got a happy, calm and focused mind! 3. Invest in Myself via Tony Robbins. In light of making the first two changes sustainable, I won’t be progressing to step three for a couples of weeks until i’m settled in my new routine. One of the most influential individuals I’ve ever met introduced my to Tony Robbins and the power of positive thinking, and my life has been changed for the better ever since. After doing some research and getting recommendations, I decided i’m going to invest in the 10 day Mastering Influence program. i’ve wanted to do this for a while now, and i’m finally at the point where the $300 seems well worth it.
So there you have it, my Mind + Body Makeover. it’s nothing extreme, but I’m excited to have a renewed sense or purpose and focus. I’ll follow up with this in a month or so and report my progress.
